Chronicle
Tamarit’s history begins in the 11th century: a key Catalan port on the frontier between Christian and Muslim lands.
The Romanesque church of Santa Maria is first recorded. Around it: walls against corsair raids, an abbey, the houses of two lords and four gates; two survive, the Portal de Mora and the Portal de la Creu.
War, looting, fever from stagnant water, and no money. Roofs fall in; Tamarit is left alone with the sea. It was still in this state in 1912.
Charles Deering, an American industrialist, buys the ruins. His friend, the painter Ramon Casas, directs the restoration and turns the site into an idyllic place of rest.

The place

While the drinks reception goes on in the garden, the light turns gold, then pink, then blue. This is the hour for portraits on the rocks.
